It followed a blistering debut at the weekend when he sent down a 155.8kph thunderbolt on his way to figures of 3-27 in the victory over Punjab Kings. Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop called him a "kid bowling like a child of the wind" on social media platform X. The 21-year-old from Delhi's explosive... Читать дальше...

'The biggest earthquake the island has seen in 25 years'

France24.com (en)

"People this morning in Taiwan woke up at 8am to the biggest earthquake that the island has seen in 25 years", said FRANCE 24's correspondent in Hualian, Taiwan Jan Camenzind Broomby. With the epicentre just kilometres from Haulian, which is a major city, "we have seen videos on social media circulating of collapsed infrastructure, collapsed residential buildings, with some videos even showing children being lifted out of collapsed homes," said Camenzind Broomby.

France24.com (en)

Pakistan host New Zealand for five Twenty20 internationals, starting in Rawalpindi on April 18, as both teams warm up for June's T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies. All-rounder Bracewell was named captain Wednesday on his return from more than a year out with a ruptured Achilles and broken finger in the absence of regular skipper Kane Williamson, who is playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL. The 33-year-old said that being informed he would captain New Zealand had capped a... Читать дальше...

One feared dead, dozens injured in most powerful Taiwan quake in 25 years

France24.com (en)

Officials said the quake and series of strong aftershocks was the strongest to shake the island in decades, and warned of more tremors in the days ahead. "The earthquake is close to land and it's shallow. It's felt all over Taiwan and offshore islands," said Wu Chien-fu, director of Taipei's Central Weather Administration's Seismology Center. Strict building regulations and disaster awareness appear to have staved off a major catastrophe for the island, which is regularly hit by earthquakes as it lies near the junction of two tectonic plates.

Verstappen poised to bounce back in Japan but Ferrari threaten

France24.com (en)

Triple world champion Verstappen retired from a race for the first time in two years after a brake issue in Melbourne caused smoke to billow from his Red Bull. Carlos Sainz took the chequered flag and team-mate Charles Leclerc followed to claim a one-two finish for Ferrari a fortnight ago. Verstappen had started the season in typically dominant form, winning emphatically in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia while Ferrari toiled behind. The tables turned in Australia but the Dutchman has won in Japan for... Читать дальше...

Rwanda marks 30 years since genocide

France24.com (en)

More than 800,000 men, women and children, mainly ethnic Tutsis but also moderate Hutus, were killed in the murderous onslaught that saw families and friends turn against each other in one of the darkest episodes of the late 20th century. Three decades on, the tiny landlocked nation has rebuilt under the iron-fisted rule of President Paul Kagame, but the traumatic legacy of the genocide lingers, reverberating across the region. In keeping with tradition, April 7 -- the day Hutu extremists and militias... Читать дальше...

Kanye West accused of racism and antisemitism in new lawsuit

France24.com (en)

The creative brains behind the Yeezy designer brand, whose music and fashion ventures have made him fabulously wealthy, has repeatedly courted controversy in recent years with racist or antisemitic language and some odd historical revisionism. Now a former employee is claiming the author of the hit "Stronger" told schoolchildren he was being persecuted by Jewish people. Trevor Phillips, who like West is Black and worked for two of West's ventures for nearly a year, claims in a Los Angeles lawsuit that he suffered severe discrimination... Читать дальше...

Palestinians relaunch bid to become UN member state

France24.com (en)

The Palestinians, who have had observer status at the world body since 2012, have lobbied for years to gain full membership, which would amount to recognition of Palestinian statehood. In a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, dated Tuesday and seen by AFP, UN envoy Riyad Mansour requested "upon instructions of the Palestinian leadership" that an application dating back to 2011 be reconsidered. The letter has been transmitted to the Security Council, and the Palestinians have asked that it be reviewed this month... Читать дальше...

Clark's epic win sets US women's basketball TV ratings record

France24.com (en)

The previous record was 11.83 million viewers for the 1983 final between Southern California and Louisiana Tech on CBS, a major network rather than a cable telecaster. Clark, the all-time leading scorer for men or women in the history of US college basketball, scored 41 points in Iowa's 94-87 victory over the Tigers in a Monday rematch of last year's March Madness championship game. The 22-year-old Hawkeyes guard, set to be the top pick in the April 15 Women's NBA Draft, made nine 3-pointers in the contest... Читать дальше...

All Blacks scrum-half Roigard out for six months with knee injury

France24.com (en)

Roigard was stretchered off after tearing his left patella tendon in the Hurricanes' win over the Otago Highlanders last Saturday. He underwent surgery in Auckland on Tuesday, the Hurricanes said in a statement. "Provided all goes well with his rehabilitation he could be back as soon as six months from now," a team spokesman added. The scrum-half had been in great form in helping the Hurricanes win all six of their Super Rugby games so far this season, putting them top of the table. Roigard... Читать дальше...

Guardiola backs 'world's best' Haaland in Keane row

France24.com (en)

Former Manchester United captain Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, said Haaland's "general play" was "so poor" and "almost like a League Two player". Haaland came under fire from Keane for his lacklustre performance in City's goalless draw against Premier League title rivals Arsenal on Sunday. Haaland is the Premier League's leading scorer this term with 18 goals after winning last season's Golden Boot during a remarkable first season with City. He netted 52 times in all competitions as Guardiola's men lifted the Premier League... Читать дальше...

Tottenham held by West Ham, Everton hit back at Newcastle

France24.com (en)

Spurs have made a habit of recovering from slow starts to win in recent months, but this time they failed to capitalise on scoring after just five minutes. Brennan Johnson was left with the simple task of tapping into an empty net from Timo Werner's cross. West Ham were under pressure to respond after collapsing from 3-1 up to lose 4-3 at Newcastle on Saturday. The Hammers were quickly level as Jarrod Bowen's corner flew in off the back of Kurt Zouma. A draw kept West Ham one point ahead of Newcastle in seventh... Читать дальше...

Netanyahu branded 'traitor' in fourth night of Israel protests

France24.com (en)

Thousands gathered in front of the country's parliament, with hostage families and former prime minister Ehud Barak blaming Netanyahu for the October 7 "disaster" and demanding an election. "You are a pharaoh, a slayer of firstborns -- 240 were kidnapped on your watch -- it's your fault," declared Einav Zangauker, whose son Matan is one of the 134 still being held in Gaza by the Islamist militants. "You failed on October 7 in every possible way," she declared, and now "you are an obstacle to a hostage deal". Читать дальше...

Spurs' top-four bid dented by West Ham draw

France24.com (en)

Ange Postecoglou's side took an early lead through Brennan Johnson at the rain-lashed London Stadium. But Zouma quickly hit back to leave Tottenham with just one win in their last three league games. Tottenham remain in fifth place, two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who face title-chasing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. If Villa beat City for the second time this season, they would move five points clear of Tottenham in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League. Читать дальше...
