For Muslims worldwide, Ramadan is a time of prayer, reflection and joyful evening meals, but all Gazans wish for this year is an end to five months of war and suffering. Despite the incessant fighting, people in Gaza continue gather at the ruins of former mosques to pray ahead of the holy month. Some 1,000 out of 1,200 mosques have been destroyed in the Gaza Strip since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023, according to local officials.
