Scottish Hockey Statement

In light of the recent advice from government and health experts regarding COVID-19, Scottish Hockey has suspended the use of traditional handshakes between opposition players; coaches; umpires and officials across all league and cup competitions.

We would request that you instruct all players; coaching staff and officials ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

It's been a while since the last update on these pages. The indoor season has been and gone - where the 2s won the league! But now it is back to outdoor activities for Western Lettings Hillhead. Storm Dennis was not enough to stop the five games of outdoor hockey going ahead yesterday, although admittedly it was a miserable day. A massive well done to all players, spectators and umpires for persevering and getting through it!

A frozen pitch on Sunday resulted in Western Lettings Hillhead's opening fixture in the Scottish Cup being delayed until last night. Following a tense opening salvo, the 1st team settled into a bit of rhythm and started to pressurise the students' backline. As Hillhead midfielders stepped through and intercepted passes from the GU defence, the West End side were able to capitalise on the game in transition and get to the GU baseline resulting in a number of opportunities for the Hillhead forwards. Following the cold snap last weekend Western Lettings Hillhead 1st team are hoping for a frost free weekend to see out the first half of this seasons Scottish Premiership. There are seven teams in action on Saturday and cup games follow on Sunday!

The Western Lettings Hillhead 2nd XI get the day started with an early 11.30am push back against Western Wildcats 2s. The 1s and 3s are at Old Anniesland, 4s and 5s at Lower Windyedge and the 6s and 7s travel to Helensburgh.

Another fantastic weekend of hockey saw goals aplenty in the Scottish Premiership and Regional 1 competitions from Western Lettings Hillhead teams. THe 3s had a tougher time of it in their Regional 2 match though.

It was a tough shift for Western Lettings Hillhead last weekend. The 1st XI picked up their first win but it was zero points for the 2nd and 3rd XI who had serious selection issues to overcome.

All seven Western Lettings Hillhead teams are in action this weekend following the holiday break, with five matches at Old Anniesland including the 1st XI starting the action at 12pm and the 6s vs 7s Development Squad at 2pm.
