Is Iran’s Missile Arsenal Getting Stronger?

0

Iran possesses one of the most versatile and sophisticated missile arsenals in the Middle East.

Despite the West’s intentions to curb Tehran’s rapidly advancing missile arsenal, the Iranian regime is committed to increasing the range of its weapons “to any point deemed necessary.” According to a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) commander, Tehran’s missiles will be able to reach any targets down the line, particularly Israeli territory. The official told Iranian state-run news outlets that its slew of munitions that reached the Jewish state during the war in June limited Israel’s ambitions. While a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was ultimately reached following a US high-stakes air campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, the regime is certainly not slowing down its weapons development.

Iran’s Deadly Missile Arsenal

Tehran possesses one of the most versatile and sophisticated missile arsenals in the Middle East. From short- and medium- to long-range systems, the regime is well-equipped to provide its regional proxy affiliates with the armaments required to maintain hostilities against Israel and Western presence generally. On multiple occasions in 2025, Iran’s IRGC has showcased the nation’s missile capacity in propaganda videos depicting underground missile bases in the coastal regions of the country’s south. The regime undoubtedly touts its underground stockpiles as a way to show its adversaries that it would still have access to arms if attacked. In recent years, the IRGC has carried out all sorts of barrages targeting oil facilities in Syria, Saudi Arabia, and northern Iraq, in addition to arming its more notorious militias like Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen.

The Fattah 2

Iran’s Fattah 2 hypersonic missile is supposedly one of the country’s most formidable. According to Tehran, the weapon is capable of evading advanced air defense systems and can penetrate the atmosphere at high speeds at ranges up to 1,400 kilometers. The Fattah 1 hypersonic missile has also earned media headlines for its alleged role in striking Haifa, Israel, this summer. While Tehran claims the series is hypersonic, the respected International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) designates the Fattah as a medium-range ballistic missile. As cautioned by IISS, “Still, its development appears to be aimed at achieving endo-atmospheric and exo-atmospheric manoeuvrability to provide Iran with a more accurate and survivable missile.”

The Sekkil, Kheibar, and Haj Qasem

Another capable ballistic missile in Iran’s arsenal is the Sekkil model. This medium-range weapon can carry a payload of 700 kgs and reach targets up to 1,550 miles away. Considering Israel is located roughly 1,240 miles away from Iran, this range is particularly threatening. Other powerful missiles in Tehran’s arsenal are the Kheibar and the Haj Qasem, which have ranges of 1,240 miles and 870 miles, respectively. The Qasem is designed for rapid launch, making it a go-to choice for Iran’s regional proxy groups, which carry out barrages targeting Israel more impulsively. The Kheibar medium-range ballistic missile is believed to have one of the heaviest payloads of Iran’s missile stockpile.

Iran’s continued missile and nuclear ambitions have clearly not been curbed by recent events in the region.
