Walmart de México’s Digital Payments App Integrates Aplazo’s BNPL Offering

0

Users of Walmart de México’s digital payments app, Cashi, can now purchase products online and pay in installments without a credit card.

This capability was enabled by a strategic partnership of Walmart de México and buy now, pay later (BNPL) company Aplazo, which includes the integration of Aplazo as a payment method within Cashi, the companies said in a Tuesday (Nov. 4) press release.

Aplazo has preapproved 1.5 million credit lines as part of this collaboration, according to the release.

As this new offering is rolled out to Walmart customers, they will be able to register and get approval in under five minutes, choose the number of biweekly payments, and instantly see the payment amounts and total cost of their purchase, per the release.

Aplazo CEO and Co-Founder Ángel Peña said in the release that this collaboration will make credit more accessible, transparent and responsible.

“In Mexico, over 60 million adults need flexible financial options, and with this integration, we’re taking a firm step toward true inclusion and becoming the preferred payment method in Mexico,” Peña said.

Santiago Benvenuto, head of financial solutions for Walmart de México and Central America, said in the release that adding payment options enhances the shopping experience.

“By integrating more financial solutions, we have the opportunity to accelerate eCommerce, offering the convenience, assortment and experience that our customers and members expect from us,” Benvenuto said. “Together with Aplazo, we are driving new purchasing options and helping families save money and live better.”

The PYMNTS Intelligence report “2025 Global Digital Shopping Index: Mexico Edition” found that Mexico is evolving into a mobile-first consumer market, with consumers using mobile devices for nearly half their purchases.

The report also found that 29% of Mexican shoppers reported that they encountered payment-related friction during their latest online purchase. Seventeen percent of shoppers experienced unexpected charges or errors, above the global average of 13%.

This creates an opportunity for retailers to streamline payment acceptance, implement secure one-click checkouts, enhance data security, and facilitate seamless cross-channel and unified shopping experiences, the report said.

PYMNTS reported in July 2022 that Cashi aimed to become a financial services provider to consumers across Mexico.
