Red Lobster says it is closing nearly 50 of its restaurants in the U.S. The locations span across more than 20 states — cutting back on Red Lobster’s presence in cities like Denver, San Antonio, Indianapolis and Sacramento. Red Lobster has been struggling for some time. With lease and labor costs piling up in recent years, the chain is now reportedly considering filing for bankruptcy.

Dozens of Red Lobster locations across the U.S. are now on the chopping block. Restaurant liquidator TAGeX Brands announced this week that it would be auctioning off the contents of over 50 Red Lobster locations that were closed as part of the seafood chain’s “footprint rationalization.” The closing locations span across more than 20 states. A judge says the remaining wrongful death lawsuit filed after 10 people were killed during a deadly crowd crush at the 2021 Astroworld music festival will go to trial in civil court in Houston in September. Ten people were killed in the crowd crush at a Nov. 5, 2021, concert in Houston by rap superstar Travis Scott. The remaining wrongful death lawsuit was filed by the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount. A lawsuit claims 14 teenagers in Michigan were sexually abused by staff while living at a state-licensed detention and rehabilitation center. The lawsuit accuses Wolverine Human Services of gross negligence. It describes staff preying on 13 boys and a girl in their rooms, in showers and elsewhere at Wolverine Secure Treatment Center. The center closed in 2021 after a series of state inspections. It was near Saginaw, 100 miles north of Detroit. There was no immediate comment on the lawsuit from Wolverine Human Services.

Wheat for Jul. gained 30.75 cents at $6.7650 a bushel; May corn was up 2.25 cents at $4.61 a bushel; Jul. oats increased 6 cents at $4.2550 a bushel; while May soybeans lost 10.75 cents at $12.1950 a bushel.

Two men accused of plotting to gun down Jews in an Islamic State-inspired attack in northwest England have been held without bail after appearing in a London court. Prosecutors on Tuesday accused the two of planning to use automatic weapons to kill Jews, police and military personnel. They faces charges of preparing terrorist acts between December and May. Canada’s most populous province will suspend driver’s licenses for at least 10 years for those who have been convicted of stealing a car. Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria says those convicted three times of auto theft would have their licenses suspended for life. Those penalties also increase on second and third convictions. Sarkaria said a car is stolen every 14 minutes in Ontario. Car thefts in the province have increased dramatically in recent years, especially in Toronto, leaving many residents frustrated.

Following the ramming of a small boat by an orca in the Strait of Gibraltar, authorities in Spain have issued recommendations that small vessels stick to the coastline in that region to avoid often-scary interactions with killer whales during summer months.. In the latest incident, two people aboard a 15-meter (50-foot) boat in Moroccan waters requested help from Spain’s maritime rescue service Sunday after reporting that an orca knocked the craft several times, damaging its rudder and causing a leak. A new study finds that the broiling summer of 2023 was the hottest in the Northern Hemisphere in more than 2,000 years. Federal grants can be a huge boost for small businesses. And some federal agencies do better at giving grants to small businesses than others. The Small Business Administration released its annual scorecard measuring how well federal agencies meet their small business contracting goals each year. Overall, the federal government has a goal to award 23% of contracts to small businesses. In fiscal 2023, 28.4% were awarded to small businesses, amounting to $178.6 billion. Boeing is losing more aircraft orders than it is taking in. It's the latest sign of trouble at the company since a door plug blew out of one of its planes in January. Boeing said Tuesday that it received orders for seven planes last month. That's an unusually small number, but Boeing's problems are even worse than that. The sales were outnumbered by canceled orders for 33 planes, 29 of them due to the shutdown of Canadian discount carrier Lynx Air. Boeing delivered 24 airline jets last month, falling farther behind rival Airbus.
