Family says 3 brothers among 7 missing in NorCal fireworks explosion
The Esparto explosion is what experienced firefighters call a "once-in-a-career type incident," and rare. CalFire is also calling it a crime scene.
The California Highway Patrol set up a roadblock on County Road 86A, keeping media crews and others about a mile away from the explosion site.
Fire crews have to let the fire burn itself out and be absolutely certain the rest of the commercial fireworks have been lit and gone off before they can go into the site to investigate and look for victims.The state fire marshal's office still doesn't know what caused the explosion.
It's the unanswered questions that are frustrating and confusing some of the families of the seven missing people.
One family told KCRA 3 that three brothers from the Bay Area work at the warehouse and haven't been heard from since Tuesday afternoon.
They showed up at the roadblock just before noon Wednesday looking for information.
The girlfriend of Jesus Maneces Ramos said he is 18 years old and yesterday was his first day on the job, along with another brother.
When fire officials held a press briefing, Syanna Ruiz, who is also expecting a baby with Ramos, wanted to know why crews weren't looking for the missing workers. She also was upset the officials lead the news conference talking about evacuations and not the victims unaccounted for.
"The people stuck in the warehouse, that's the information you should have released, not about the people who have evacuated. The people who evacuated are safe. The people who evacuated, they are OK," Ruiz said. "The people in there are possibly dead, have no life and their families have yet to get any information.
