A new California law that requires web browsers to allow users to block all websites from sharing or selling their personal information could end up setting a standard for the whole country. Emory Roane is with the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, which pushed for the legislation. Roane says it will likely be easier for companies to put the service in place for the entire country, rather than just for California users. Mozilla's Firefox already has a setting that allows users to tell websites not to sell or share your data. Some advocates say they are going to keep pushing to expand privacy preferences for things such as connected smart devices and vehicles.
