Czech government faces no-confidence vote in Parliament over a dispute with the president

0
The Czech Republic's coalition government of populist Prime Minister Andrej Babiš faces a no-confidence vote over a dispute with President Petr Pavel. The opposition requested the vote after Pavel accused Foreign Minister Petr Macinka of blackmail for refusing to appoint a contentious minister representing his party. Macinka leads the Motorists for Themselves party and he threatened the president with political consequences. Tens of thousands of Czech rallied Sunday in support of Pavel. Babiš has rejected calls to dismiss Macinka. The government has a majority to survive the vote. The timing of the vote is uncertain but is likely to take place on Tuesday. Pavel and Babiš are scheduled to meet on Wednesday.
