Peru’s Congress is moving to remove interim President José Jerí after prosecutors opened a preliminary corruption probe over unreported meetings with two Chinese businessmen. On Tuesday, lawmakers were scheduled to vote on an impeachment motion to oust him. Jerí has held office for only four months. Congress swore him in during October after it removed his predecessor. Jerí says he met the businessmen to plan a Peruvian-Chinese festivity. Opponents point to a leaked report about a secret December meeting. One businessman has state contracts. The other faces an illegal logging probe. Peru has had seven presidents since 2016.
