At least two people have been killed and eight critically wounded in a shooting at Brown University. Providence, Rhode Island, Mayor Mayor Brett Smiley said those are the only known injuries and casualties.. University officials initially told students and staff that a suspect was in custody, before later saying that was not the case and that police were still searching for a suspect or suspects, according to alerts issued through Brown’s emergency notification system.
Authorities say police have responded to an active shooter situation at Brown University near an engineering building on the campus in Providence, Rhode Island. Officials say a suspect is in custody. The incident was reported near the Barus & Holley building. It's a seven-story structure that houses the School of Engineering and Physics Department, according to the school’s website. Maine’s loons are on the mend, filling more of the lakes and ponds in the state with their haunting calls. Maine is home to a few thousand of the large waterbirds, and conservationists say efforts to protect them from threats have helped grow the population. The state has the largest loon population on the East Coast. Maine Audubon says an annual count of common loons found more adults and chicks this year than last.
