A business jet with six people crashed at a regional airport in North Carolina, erupting in a large fire and killing multiple people. Flight records show the plane was registered to a company run by retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle. Authorities say the Cessna C550 crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport, about 45 miles north of Charlotte. Federal aviation officials are investigating. Pakistan's state-run television says intelligence agents have arrested the spokesman of the local Islamic State affiliate, a militant figure designated a terrorist by the United States in 2021. Analysts say the move dealt a major blow to the militant group, which has been attempting a comeback in the region. Pakistan TV said on Thursday that the arrest took place in May. Italian restorers have used laser beams to clean an ancient Roman marble column in the piazza outside the prime minister’s office, removing layers of dust and grime that had covered the monument for decades. A jury has sentenced a man to death in six murders in metro Phoenix in 2017, but was undecided on the punishment for his convictions in the killings of his mother and stepfather. The punishment given to Cleophus Cooksey Jr. marks the end of a nearly seven-month trial over attacks that targeted random victims and his own mother and stepfather. A court in Romania has sentenced American rapper Wiz Khalifa to nine months in jail on drug possession charges. The ruling on Thursday came more than a year after he took part in a music festival in the Eastern European country. Khalifa was stopped by Romanian police in July 2024 after allegedly smoking cannabis on stage at the festival in Costinesti. Five new defendants have been charged in connection with a Minnesota housing services fraud scheme. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson said during a news conference Thursday that at least 14 state-run programs in Minnesota have been flagged for fraud. He said two defendants pocketed $750,000 instead of helping Medicaid recipients find stable housing.
