Mums-to-be are applying make-up DURING labour due to the pressure to look good on Instagram just hours after giving birth
MAKEUP might not be the first thing on a mum’s minds while giving birth – but for some ultra-glamorous women, it’s become essential to apply some slap while in the throes of labour.
Under pressure to always look Instagram-ready, new research has found that 68 per cent of British women feel the need to put on makeup the day that they give birth.
With more and more mums posing for birth announcement snaps just hours after their baby is born, mums are ensuring they look their best for their precious first moments as a parent.
Two-thirds of mothers-to-be, aged 18 to 31, are now said to be investing in beauty treatments including manicures, pedicures, spray tans and blow drys ahead of the big day.
The growing trend of post-birth beautifying looks to be fuelled by Instagram influencers who, if these pictures are anything to go by, could be pressuring new-mums to get out their makeup tools.
Some of the glamorous mums have shared photos of themselves contouring between contracts, while others invested in ‘labour lashes’ just days before welcoming their new arrival.
In 2016, American makeup artist Alaha Karimi made headlines after sharing pictures of herself prepping for labour by applying layers of foundation and perfecting her powder.
Noting it was a great distraction from the pain of contractions, Alaha, who does makeup for brides, joked that if it could survive wedding tears, it could even withstand her ten-hour labour.
Another mum and makeup artist, Tegan Woodford, from the Gold Coast of Australia, posted snaps of her giving her sister-in-law a full makeover in the build up to her birth.
And it was so relaxing for the mum-to-be, it sped up her labour, with Tegan telling Mail Online: “Getting your makeup done in labour relaxes you, speeds up the process and makes you look good.”
