Who is representing Sweden at Eurovision 2019? Meet John Lundvik who will be performing Too Late For Love
SWEDEN is backing John Lundvik at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and it’s not that surprising to see why he was chosen.
With a helping hand in co-writing UK’s entry Michael Rice’s song Bigger Than Us, it already looks like John is proving himself to be more than just a talented singer. Find out more about him below…
Who is Sweden’s 2019 Eurovision entry John Lundvik?
John was born in London and moved to Sweden when he was adopted at the age of six.
His interest in music came at a later stage in life. Athletics had taken up all of his time as a teenager, having competed in national competitions and going on to win eight gold medals in the process.
Almost every competition he took on, Lundvik made sure he was his absolute best – which would explain why he has such an impressive number of accolades.
It wasn’t until 2010, however, that Lundvik grew a passion for all things concerning music, having written When You Tell the World You’re Mine for a royal wedding in Sweden.
The opportunity would see his music career blossom into composing original music for the US drama-comedy Empire.
Lundvik was close to competing for Sweden at Eurovision in 2018 when he took part in the Melodifestivalen, which is more or less a mini version to the main competition.
In 2019, he ended up winning the competition with his song My Turn and instantly received the opportunity to compete at this year’s main event in Tel Aviv, Israel.
If you’re picked to represent Sweden, then clearly one must be doing something right.
After all, it’s the only country to have won the competition six times (just below Ireland’s seven wins) and holds the most top five results (13) this century.
What is Sweden’s Eurovision 2019 song called?
Lundvik will perform Too Late for Love at this year’s event, hoping that it will gain him enough points to win the competition.
After all, he had first performed the track on Melodifestivalen where it not only became a big hit but also saw voters praise its originality and endearing message.
“The title says Too Late For Love, but what I want to say that it’s really never too late for love,” Lundvik explained while gushing about his Eurovision entry.
“I dare to believe somewhere, in my naive heart, that everything can be solved with love”.
He’s expected to perform at the second semi-final on 16 May 2019.
