Millionaires fear ruin after 100 travellers buy ‘£3million’ site for £3k and set up camp next to posh village
A MILLIONAIRES’ village fears ruin — after 100 travellers bought a field and set up permanent camp.
The group gravelled and fenced off a footie pitch-sized plot for 20 caravans without planning permission.
Building material continues to arrive despite a council injunction in the village — where locals include ex-England ace Matthew Upson, CEOs and top lawyers.
More than 200 have complained over loud partying and daily rubbish fires.
But the council cannot evict them as they bought the £3,000 site — which locals say would be worth £3million developed.
One resident in Little Hadham, Herts, raged: “What’s the council doing? Everyone’s really worried about what’s going on.
“I want to see them and the police do something. It’s a slap in the face.
“We pay so much council tax and they are breaking the law. Yet if we want to do anything, we have to jump through hoops with planning. It’s a joke.”
‘NO POWERS TO EVICT’
Little Hadham, lined with Porsches and Bentleys, has 53 pads worth over £1million. Travellers began arriving on Good Friday and caravans continued to pour in as recently as last weekend.
But Cllr Geoffrey Williamson admitted: “They bought this field a short while ago. As they are on their own private land, we have no powers to evict.”

East Herts district council added: “Unfortunately, they have not complied with the terms of the injunction.
“We’re doing everything we can, through legal procedures, to try to stop unauthorised works.”
Chief Insp Stuart Orton said: “Community tensions are high. But police have no power to intervene until directed by the High Court.”
