GOGGLEBOX creator Tania Alexander has insisted that Jenny Newby DID correctly guess what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would name the royal baby as she denied fix claims.
The Channel 4 show came under fire last night, with cynical viewers refusing to believe that Jenny guessed the newborn would be called Archie.
In the episode, the popular cast member told her best friend Lee: “I think they might call him Archie.
“I think Archie will suit him lovely.”
Her pal replied with shock, simply asking: “Really?!”
Showrunner Tania took to her social media page to claim that Jenny’s guess was completely organic, telling fans: “I would just like to confirm that our Jenny did genuinely guess the name Archie before it was announced”.
She added the hashtag “#GeniusJenny”.
Lee also took to Twitter to back his pal – revealing Jenny’s hilarious reaction when baby Archie’s name was announced.
He wrote: “She rang me screaming down the phone that she said Archie, how the f***?”
Fans initially flocked to social media to accuse Gogglebox of “fixing” the episode by filming Jenny’s guess after the name had been officially announced.
One wrote: “That clip of Jenny ‘guessing’ the name was clearly recorded after the name was made public.”
Another added: “Call me cynical but, something tells me that, that clip of Jenny saying they should name him Archie was filmed after the name was made public.”
A third said: “It’s all just so fake now… We know they watch all the shows in one or two sittings and still they make on they’re surprised that the baby has arrived and pretending they’re guessing it’s name, come on now.”
None of the other stars’ guesses were shown, with Ellie telling her sister Izzi that she “didn’t know” what the royals would call him, and Giles telling his wife Mary that they’ll “put it to a public vote”.
