CONCERNED that her eyes were starting to droop, Lisa Shaw was excited to discover a simple treatment that did not involve going under the knife.
The fibroblast procedure promises to lift and tighten the eyelids using a plasma pen — and Lisa found a practitioner who would carry it out for £280.

But instead of getting wider eyes, Lisa was left with burnt, crusty marks on the skin above her eyelids which turned to scarring.
The stay-at-home mum of seven, from Morecambe, Lancs, says her confidence is now shattered.
Lisa was later awarded £8,000 compensation in an out-of-court settlement with the practitioner.
She says: “There is nothing I regret more than getting that procedure done. My face is ruined.

“I was hoping to get into modelling, but that dream is over now I have permanent pink scars on my eyelids. It was the worst decision of my life.”
Lisa, 40, had thought about having her eyes reshaped for years, and through her thirties was becoming more self-conscious about them drooping.
But after a botched boob job at the age of 27, which required corrective surgery, Lisa was afraid of going under the knife so searched online for non-invasive eyelid procedures.
Lisa says: “When I saw this procedure I was hopeful. It uses a plasma pen to lift and tighten the eye area.

“The needle-like tip never penetrates skin tissue, but causes a controlled superficial burn to restore the skin’s natural elasticity.”
Lisa found a practitioner who was offering the treatment for £280 from a salon in her region — but didn’t check their credentials.
She says: “I was told they wouldn’t cut into my skin, there’d be no anaesthetic and no pain. When I arrived for my appointment, the woman at the salon told me that I wouldn’t feel a thing. But when she started, I felt the skin above my eyes starting to burn. I was in the most excruciating pain of my life, it was worse than being in labour.
“She was literally searing my skin off, and I could smell it burning.

“I began screaming, but she told me that it was normal and not to panic.”
After 20 minutes Lisa’s eyelids were left “charred brown”. Lisa says: “I argued with her that something was wrong, but she insisted it was all part of the process. She told me they’d ‘calm down’ in a few days.”
Reluctantly, Lisa went home but her eyes swelled up and later scabs formed on her eyelids. She was left with “bright pink scarring”. The salon advised her to wait six months for her eyes to heal.
But six months later, in January 2018, her eyes were still scarred. She says: “I was absolutely distraught.

I stopped going out with my friends.”
In March this year Lisa was awarded the damages after hiring a lawyer.
Lisa, who uses special make-up for burns victims, says: “I was relieved I got the compensation. I’m hoping to get revision surgery to remove the scarring but that will cost around £5,000.

“I have been self-conscious about my eyes all my life, but now they look even worse than before.”
She adds: “This woman had no idea what she was doing. It’s shocking that a practitioner could botch such a procedure, especially in such a sensitive area.
“I can’t believe I trusted someone to do this to my face. I have looked further into the non-surgical eye-lift procedure and discovered that anyone can do it. All they need to do is to take a two-day course.
“I want to warn people to think twice before undergoing non-invasive treatments. Sometimes they can be just as dangerous as surgery.”
