A JEREMY Kyle Show runner has claimed guests are wound up behind the scenes and encouraged to “get wasted” the night before.
The bombshell allegation comes after ITV suspended the daytime show indefinitely after guest Steve Dymond, 63, died of a drug overdose days after failing a love-cheat lie detector test.
An show employee – who wished to remain anonymous – told the BBC: “I saw things that you would never imagine happening on any other TV programme – guests running around the place uncontrollably, screaming and swearing at production crew.
“Guests and producers would argue and you can guarantee a guest would tell you ‘where to go’.
“ Guests were put up in a hotel close to the studio, sometimes with access to a mini bar so they could get wasted the night before.
“A friend who also worked on the show told me guests from the programme were banned from certain hotels because rooms were being trashed.”
The runner – who was in charge of fetching food and drink for guests – worked on the show for around a month three years ago.
He accused show producers of forcing guests to wear “a more stereotypical tracksuit and hoodie look” on-screen.
They would keep the guests apart until filming started – but would often tell tales about what they had each said about each other behind the scenes.
It was vital the all conflict was caught on camera and nothing was wasted backstage, the runner added.
Cigarettes would be provided by ITV, with runners tasked with looking after them during smoking breaks.
After 14 years on air, The Jeremy Kyle Show was pulled yesterday. Its future now hangs in the balance.
ITV has launched an inquiry and deleted all previous episodes from the on-demand service, the ITV Hub.
Fans have been left fuming that Dickinson’s Real Deal has replaced the show for the second day running.
They called for Trisha Goddard’s talk show to return in its place.
