Serie A take NO action against Cagliari for fans’ Moise Kean racist abuse… suggesting monkey chants were not racially motivated
SERIE A officials have opted to take NO action against Cagliari after their fans’ subjected Juventus star Moise Kean to vile racist abuse.
The striker, 19, was cruelly taunted during Juve’s 2-0 win on April 2 – after celebrating scoring in the victory.
But Italian league officials have claimed the chants were not “relevant to race”, despite calling the taunts – thought to be monkey noises – “reprehensible”.
A Serie A statement read: “It emerged the chants in question, although certainly reprehensible, had an objectively limited relevance to race.”
The racist abuse aimed at Kean sparked major controversy across the globe.
In a season blighted by disgusting levels of racism – with the likes of Raheem Sterling and his England team-mates abused – Juventus made a rod for their own back.
After the game, Juve captain Leonardo Bonucci accused Kean of antagonising Cagliari fans and was partially to blame for being abused.
Bonucci said: “Kean knows that when he scores a goal, he has to focus on celebrating with his team-mates.
“BLAME IS 50-50”
“He knows he could’ve done something differently too. There were racist jeers after the goal, Blaise heard it and was angered.
“I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldn’t have done that and the Curva should not have reacted that way.
“We are professionals, we have to set the example and not provoke anyone.”
Incredibly, manager Massimiliano Allegri agreed, saying: “[Kean] shouldn’t have celebrated in that manner.
“He is a young man and he has to learn, but certain things from the crowd also shouldn’t be heard.
“You need great intelligence to deal with these situations and should not go to provoke people.”
