Tesla is helping South Australia build what will be the world’s largest virtual power plant

The Verge

The South Australian government will build what it says is the world’s largest virtual power plant by rolling out solar panels and Tesla batteries to at least 50,000 homes. Installation is planned over the next four years, and those households will combine to create the 250MW virtual power plant. Energy generated from the solar panels will be stored in the Tesla batteries, and any excess energy will be fed back to the grid, which will be centrally controlled and provide energy to the rest of the state when required. This Apple Watch clone has GPS and 45 days of battery life for $99

The Verge

One of the biggest complaints with smartwatches is the need to recharge them as often as a smartphone. The best smartwatches you can get typically don’t last longer than two days, and most require daily charging. The new Amazfit Bip, which is available in the US starting today, provides up to a promised 45 days of battery life, putting even the venerable Pebble (RIP) to shame.

Looks like this SpaceX dummy will ride Musk’s Tesla Roadster into space tomorrow

The Verge

Tomorrow is a big day for Elon Musk: his company SpaceX will be launching the new Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, seven years after the vehicle was first announced. It will be a demonstration mission, meant to test if the rocket can send a payload into orbit. And that payload will be Musk’s red Tesla Roadster... driven by a dummy, perhaps.

2018 iPhones might use Intel modems exclusively, pushing Qualcomm aside

The Verge

The latest research note from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, as obtained and reported on by MacRumors and 9to5Mac, indicates that Apple’s next iteration of the iPhone will have Intel as its sole supplier of cellular modems. This would eliminate Apple’s longstanding reliance on Qualcomm modems for the iPhone, and it’s likely to escalate tensions in the ongoing dispute between Apple and Qualcomm. One of the lawsuits between the two companies, launched by Qualcomm, alleges that Apple improperly shared proprietary code with Intel... Читать дальше...

Huawei launches the Honor 7X in red for Valentine’s Day in the US

The Verge

A month after the Honor 7X came to the US in black and blue, Huawei is launching the smartphone in red... because Valentine’s Day is coming up? Huawei says it’s related. It’s also running some kind of Valentine’s Day phone giveaway contest about falling in love, which I urge you not to participate in because it sounds embarrassing. I also urge you not to buy your significant other a smartphone for Valentine’s Day, because it is not romantic. But if you’re looking for an affordable smartphone for yourself or for other occasions... Читать дальше...
