Police: Suspect in Portland stabbings ranted about Muslims

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man who police say fatally stabbed two people who tried to stop him from yelling anti-Islamic slurs on a Portland light-rail train spent time in prison for robbery and kidnapping charges years ago, according to court records and a defense attorney.

Kevin Phillips pulled up to investigate a suspected opioid overdose, paramedics were already at the Maryland home giving a man a life-saving dose of the overdose reversal drug Narcan. Drugs were easy to find: a package of heroin on the railing leading to a basement; another batch on a shelf above a nightstand.

Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Virginia special agent

RICHMOND, Va. — A Virginia State Police special agent died today after being shot by a man sitting in a car in a Richmond public housing complex, police said. The shooting suspect fled on foot, sparking an overnight manhunt that ended with the man’s arrest about an hour after the agent’s death.
