This Botched Report of Eddie Jackson Deal By Twitter is Priceless
Most of the NFL world got the news of Eddie Jackson receiving his contract extension from the Chicago Bears without incident. The 27-year old received 58.4 million in new money along with four more years added to his current deal. It’s a well-deserved payday for one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. Easily the best safety the team has drafted since Mike Brown almost two decades prior.
Jackson has reached his second Pro Bowl in as many years. He’s delivered 12 interceptions in three seasons and scored five defensive touchdowns. For a guy who came into the NFL as a 4th round pick with a broken leg? He seems to have done pretty well for himself. Unfortunately, some people have a hard time remembering who he is. Even those employed by massive conglomerates.
For example, one should see what the official Twitter Moments account did when the deal was announced. Keep in mind this is a legitimate account by Twitter itself with 761,000 followers. See if you can spot the problems.
Here’s a screenshot just in case it gets deleted.
Spot the issue? The first part is that the extension is announced for Eddie “Perry.” Not Eddie Jackson. If that weren’t enough, notice the picture they used. Not only is that not one of Jackson. It’s not even a Bears player. That is Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons. Two gigantic gaffes in one tweet by the actual platform. Incredible.
Eddie Jackson certainly did Simmons a favor
One person who is no doubt thrilled with Jackson’s big payday is Simmons. He’s coming off the best season of his career up in Denver and will be lining up for a raise of his own fairly soon. Now the Broncos have an idea of the ballpark they’ll need to hit in terms of numbers. Before long that expensive contract the Bears just handed him will look like a bargain in comparison. Jokes aside, the team is no doubt happy to have one of their best players secure for the long-term.
