Gators End Sooner Softball Streak, Force Second Semifinal Game
Florida's softball team hit four home runs, including an inside-the-park homer and beat Oklahoma 9-3 in the Women's College World Series semifinals on Monday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, forcing a second game between the two teams on Tuesday.
The Sooners fell behind 4-0, as Florida scored in each of the first five innings.
Already up 1-0 in the second inning, the Gators got an inside-the-park home run from Kendra Falby, who blooped a ball down the left field line and when Rylie Boone failed to reach it on a diving attempt, it rolled way past her and allowed Falby to score easily.
Later in the second inning, Skylar Wallace hit a solo home run, the first of two homers for her in the game.
It was 4-0 in the fourth inning when OU finally got on the board when Kinzie Hansen singled up the middle to score Kasidi Pickering and make it 4-1 Gators.
Florida answered in the bottom of the inning as Reagan Walsh hit a three-run home run to make it 7-1 Gators.
OU responded in the top of the fifth as Tiare Jennings hit a two-run home run to cut Florida's lead to 7-3.
The Gators added to the lead in the fifth with Wallace's second home run.
OU pitcher Nicole May took the loss, giving up four earned runs in two innings of work.
The win ended OU's record 20-game NCAA Tournament winning streak, and their 10-game winning streak in the WCWS.
The two teams will play again on Tuesday at 1:00, with the winner advancing to play Texas in the best-of-three finals.
