To create his ethereal "Remnant" chair, for example, Seattle-based artist Drew Daley spent 300 hours hand-sanding an oak seat until it became a ghost of itself. The artists use different types of media, ranging from paper to soot, and varying unplugged approaches, but their works all reveal complex imagery created by concentrated detail. "Works in this exhibit demonstrate astonishing results manifested by the commitment of these artists to craft, concentrated labor and precise execution of concept," D'Estout said.

But we don't often think about these things, especially when divvying up tasks. It's easy to make a chart that ensures that everyone is doing the same number of chores. But less simple is quantifying the stress those tasks bring.
