NASA's longest-working rover on Mars has been declared dead after 15 years and a 45-kilometre trawl across on the planet. Eight months ago, Opportunity went silent during a raging dust storm, and despite more than 800 attempts to make contact with the solar-powered machine, the American space agency has had no luck. The gold cart-sized machine helped build the foundation for future space travel to the Red Planet, with missions from the US, China, Russia, the Middle East and private companies like SpaceX all working on future missions. Die Novelle des Ökostrom-Gesetzes ist im Bundesrat gescheitert. Damit hat die Länderkammer erstmals in ihrer Geschichte ein Gesetz zu Fall gebracht. Die SPÖ blieb in der Abstimmung am Donnerstag bei ihrer Ablehnung und verhinderte damit die Zwei-Drittel-Mehrheit, die für die Annahme des Gesetzes nötig gewesen wäre. Zugleich bot die SPÖ aber gleich "ab morgen" neue Verhandlungen an.

Bundesrat dürfte Ökostrom-Novelle zu Fall bringen

Am Donnerstag stimmt der Bundesrat über eine Verlängerung der Förderung für Biomasse-Kraftwerke ab. Es geht um 140 Mio. Euro, die über drei Jahre an 47 Kraftwerke ausgeschüttet werden sollen. Die SPÖ hat im Vorfeld angekündigt, gegen die Maßnahme zu stimmen. Bleibt sie dabei, dann wird die Förderung nicht beschlossen. Zumindest die SPÖ will aber am Freitag neue Verhandlungen zum Thema starten.
