Dutch media citing sources say tense talks between the four parties that make up Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s ruling coalition have failed to broker a deal over ways to rein in migration. Uncovering secrets of plant regeneration

Sciencedaily.com

Plants regenerate using pluripotent callus tissues and initiating the de novo formation of shoot apical meristem (SAM). However, the mechanisms governing the efficiency of regeneration are unclear. Now, researchers have shown that the WOX13 gene in Arabidopsis thaliana negatively regulates SAM formation from callus and promotes its non-meristematic fate. The findings demonstrate that the targeted disruption of WOX13 can significantly enhance shoot regeneration efficiency, paving the way for future biotechnological advancements.

Madagascar hippos were forest dwellers

Sciencedaily.com

Extinct dwarf hippos that once roamed Madagascar lived in forests rather than open grasslands preferred by common hippos on mainland Africa. The findings suggest grasslands that now cover much of the enormous island off the eastern coast of southern Africa were a relatively recent change facilitated by people rather than a natural habitat sustained in part by these famously large vegetarians.

Sciencedaily.com

Researchers have uncovered a potential mechanism in humans that explains how and why deep-sleep brain waves at night are able to regulate the body's sensitivity to insulin, which in turn improves blood sugar control the next day. It's an exciting advance because sleep is a modifiable lifestyle factor that could now be used as part of a therapeutic and painless adjunct treatment for those with high blood sugar or Type 2 diabetes.
