Nexus between energy efficiency, green investment, urbanization and environmental quality: Evidence from MENA region

Plos.org

by Chen Gang, He Sha, Md Qamruzzaman

Environmental protection holds a paramount position in the pursuit of sustainable development. The existing body of literature has extensively examined various driving forces for environmental enhancement, including renewable energy sources, innovation, and governmental interventions. This study aims to assess the impact of green investment, energy efficiency, and urbanization on achieving environmental sustainability in the MENA region during the period 2004–2019. Outward foreign direct investment and GVC position of manufacturing industry: A perspective on China’s general trade and processing trade structure

Plos.org

by Fei Ren, Dong Le, Ziyu Hu

Depending on the trading modes, the effect of Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) on the manufacturing industry’s position within the global value chain (GVC) may differ considerably. This paper examines the GVC position of China’s manufacturing industry from 2003 to 2018, specifically focusing on the general trade and processing trade. Drawing upon this premise, this paper analyzes the effect and mechanism by which OFDI influences the GVC position of China’s manufacturing industry. Читать дальше...

Number and ratio of metastatic lymph nodes impacts the prognosis of submandibular gland cancer

Plos.org

by Qigen Fang, Liyuan Dai, Xu Zhang, Ruihua Luo, Junhui Yuan

This study aimed to assess the impact of the number and ratio of metastatic lymph nodes (LNs) on prognosis in submandibular gland cancer. To this end, patients were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database retrospectively. The effect of the number and ratio of metastatic LNs and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) N stage on disease-specific survival (DSS) and overall survival (OS) was analyzed. Determinants of wheat residue burning: Evidence from India

Plos.org

by Adrian A. Lopes, Dina Tasneem, Ajalavat Viriyavipart

Postharvest crop residue burning (CRB) is a major policy issue in several developing countries because of harmful environmental and public health consequences. While the literature has extensively examined the reasons for rice CRB, much less is known about wheat residue management. This paper explores the drivers of CRB of wheat in India and relates it to farmers’ prior decisions related to CRB of rice in the preceding season. Using... Читать дальше...

Heterogenous circulating miRNA changes in ME/CFS converge on a unified cluster of target genes: A computational analysis

Plos.org

by Mateusz Piotr Kaczmarek

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a debilitating, multisystem disease of unknown mechanism, with a currently ongoing search for its endocrine mediators. Circulating microRNAs (miRNA) are a promising candidate for such a mediator and have been reported as significantly different in the patient population versus healthy controls by multiple studies. None of these studies, however, agree with each other on which specific miRNA are under- or over-expressed. Читать дальше...

Pilot study of fractal dimension analysis of osteogenesis for bone substitute materials of Bio-Oss in lateral sinus augmentation

Plos.org

by Cai Wen, Qing Zhang

Background

Fractal dimension (FD) analysis has been proposed and validated in osseointegration-related research. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of FD analysis in the osteogenesis detection of bone substitute materials (BSMs) of Bio-Oss in maxillary lateral sinus augmentation.

Methods

Patients who received lateral maxillary sinus augmentation and underwent grafting with BSMs (Bio-Oss) were included in the study. The cross sections of the... Читать дальше...

Analyzing the impact of sustainable economic development from the policy text network: Based on the practice of China’s bay area policy

Plos.org

by Huijie Zhou, Shangjia Yu, Pengyue Wu

In order to break through the surface analysis of the content structure of policy texts, an in-depth discussion of the linkage between regional policy makers and objectives is helpful to analyze the formation mechanism of policy effects. Through social network analysis and multi-index analysis, this study takes the QianwanNew Area of Ningbo and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as representatives to explore the policy framework for the... Puberty, brain network connectivity and neuropsychiatric outcomes following pediatric traumatic brain injury in females: A research protocol

Plos.org

by Abigail Livny, Tamar Silberg

Background

Examining the role of sex on recovery from pediatric TBI (pTBI) is a complex task, specifically when referring to injuries occurring during critical developmental and maturation periods. The effect of sex hormones on neurological and neuropsychiatric outcomes has been studied among adult TBI females, but not in children. During development, puberty is considered a key milestone accompanied by changes in physical growth, neuronal maturation, sex hormones, and psychological symptoms. Читать дальше...

How does subjective social status at school at the age of 15 affect the risk of depressive symptoms at the ages of 18, 21, and 28? A longitudinal study

Plos.org

by Marie Kjærgaard Lange, Vivi Just-Nørregaard, Trine Nøhr Winding

Background

Young people’s mental health is declining. Depression is a public disease which is increasing internationally, and in Denmark an increase is seen especially among young people. Objective social status is known to be associated with mental health and depression, but little is known about the association between adolescent subjective social status at school and depressive symptoms during young adulthood. The aim... Читать дальше...

Experiences of women living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A pilot case-control, single-cycle, daily Menstrual Cycle Diary study during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic

Plos.org

by Kaitlin Nelson, Sonia Shirin, Dharani Kalidasan, Jerilynn C. Prior

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects many people and is often distressing. Much medical literature about diagnosis and treatment exists, but little is known about PCOS menstrual cycle-related experiences except that cycles tend to be far-apart and unpredictable. Our purpose was to examine the menstrual cycle and daily life experiences in those with PCOS having approximately month-apart cycles compared with age and BMI-matched... Читать дальше...

Gene expression signatures of stepwise progression of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Plos.org

by Manisri Porukala, P. K. Vinod

The molecular pathogenesis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is a complex process progressing from premalignant stages to cancer in a stepwise manner. Mostly, HCC is detected at advanced stages, leading to high mortality rates. Hence, characterising the molecular underpinnings of HCC from normal to cancer state through precancerous state may help in early detection and improve its prognosis and treatment. In this work, we analysed the transcriptomic profile... Читать дальше...

The octopamine receptor OAα1 influences oogenesis and reproductive performance in Rhodnius prolixus

Plos.org

by Luca Finetti, Ian Orchard, Angela B. Lange

The control of reproductive processes in Rhodnius prolixus involves a variety of neuroactive chemicals. Among these, several studies have suggested that the biogenic amine octopamine (OA), might play an active role in these processes. Here, we investigate the molecular profile of the R. prolixus α adrenergic-like OA receptor 1 (RpOAα1-R) and its role in egg production. Comparative molecular analyses confirm that the RpOAα1-R gene codes for a true OAα1 receptor. Читать дальше...
