Don’t spend big bucks on Christmas decor, my light-up Dollar Tree feature uses a duster and looks brilliant for $2.50
A SEASONAL crafts fan has urged shoppers not to spend big bucks on Christmas decor.
From the unpromising combination of a Dollar Tree duster and some lights, he created a beautiful festive feature.
It was novel too, looked brilliant and only set him back a very affordable $2.50.
The cute idea came from The Navage Patch (@thenavagepatch), who has 1.2 million followers.
There is nothing this guy loves more than a spot of DIY and home improvement.
But in this post, he shared another of his passions: “seasonal crafts.”
It was so simple too, and even the most inept could have a go at his mini Christmas tree idea.
“Do you want to see what you can do with a Dollar Tree duster?” he asked his viewers.
And then promised: “It is so much more fun than dusting.”
First, viewers were urged to purchase their duster from Dollar Tree, $1.25, and some battery-operated fairy lights, also $1.25.
“After fluffing [the duster] out, I started trimming downwards at an angle with a sturdy pair of scissors,” he explained.
“I didn’t cut to the bottom, only about three-quarters of the way down.
Mini DIY Christmas tree decorations
Create your very own mini Christmas tree decoration with this idea from The Navage Patch (@thenavagepatch).
First, take a trip to Dollar Tree for the essentials to make this craft idea.
Flexible Duster – $1.25
Battery-operated fairy lights – $1.25
With a pair of scissors, trim downwards at an angle.
Snip then rotate, then repeat, again, until you have a tree-like shape.
Then remove the handle, and wrap fairy lights around the tree.
Position trees into holders and add to your Christmas display.
“Snip, rotate, repeat. If you can operate the scissors you can make the simple craft,” he said. “You can make it as artistic as your heart desires.”
Once a tree shape started to emerge, it was time to “yank the handle off.”
Next came the finishing touches: “I got a short strand of battery-operated fairy lights around the tree, starting up top and all the way to the base.”
When it was time for the great switch on, he got the desired reaction.
“When I turned on the fairy lights I could hear my wife swoon from across the room.”
His idea was so easy and so cheap: “One of these beautiful duster trees can be made for $1.25 without lights, and $2.50 with lights.
“Why spend big bucks on Christmas decor when it’s so easy to decorate for less,” he said.
As he signed off, he had a question for his viewers: “Now be honest, wasn’t this more fun than dusting?”
There were an awful lot who liked his creation, with his video attracting over 186,000 likes.
Of the 500-plus comments, this chap admitted to liking housework.
“I don’t know man dusting is pretty fun.”
Another said this Christmas decor could have a dual purpose when the festivities are over: “When Christmas is over you can still use it as a duster.”
And one fan looked like she might be giving this idea a go: “My husband and I love making decorations or Christmas. Thanks for the new DIY idea.”
