Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on KRC Genk midfielder, Bilal El Khannouss, and could sign the midfielder for as little as €18m (£15.5m), but they could face competition from Liverpool.
Despite building a strong squad over the summer, Ange Postecoglou‘s job of revitalising the Tottenham set-up has only just begun really.
Recent injury issues have hit Spurs severely, leaving the depth of the squad massively exposed. Suffice it to say, the club will be looking for reinforcements in the January transfer window and beyond.
One area that Postecoglou appeared keen to work on in the summer was central midfield, with players such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg apparently not fitting the Australian’s system. No signings were made in the summer, however, and Hojbjerg has remained at the club.
With injuries to the likes of Pape Sarr, James Maddison, and Rodrigo Bentancur, Spurs will be even more keen to add a new midfielder to their ranks at some point, and the answer to their needs may well be in Belgium.
Spurs and Liverpool battle for Moroccan star
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who claim Spurs are keen on KRC Genk sensation, Bilal El Khannouss, a player who has been attracting attention from the Premier League of late.
Apparently, Tottenham have already been making “manoeuvres” to sign the 19-year-old, but the “latest discovery” from the Belgian league is seen as a “valued” member of the Genk squad.
The report claims Liverpool are also in pursuit, and that the “starting price” for the player would be around €18m (£15.5m). El Khannouss signed a new contract in February, which runs until 2027.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is a lot of unearthed talent in Belgium, it seems, after we were also known to be looking at Gift Orban in the summer. The only issue is whether these young players have what it takes to make the jump to the Premier League.
