Taliban Ambassador Presents Credentials to China

On Friday, the Chinese government formally accepted Bilal Karimi as the Taliban’s ambassador in Beijing. The Taliban said this appointment in a statement.

Bilal Karimi assumed his role as the Taliban’s ambassador to China on November 24, marking a notable move in diplomatic relations between China and the Taliban.

China made headlines approximately two months ago when it introduced Zhao Xing as its ambassador to Afghanistan, even as the Taliban took control of the country. This made China the first country to appoint an ambassador to Kabul during the Taliban’s administration.

On the other side of this diplomatic relationship, Bilal Karimi has become the first Taliban ambassador chosen to represent the group in a foreign country.

Before this diplomatic appointment, Bilal Karimi was deputy spokesman for the Taliban, contributing to the group’s communication efforts.

It’s important to highlight that the Taliban has not yet received recognition from any other country, making China’s move to accept Bilal Karimi’s credentials a noteworthy development.
