CBS's Dancing CGI Mascots Left College Football Fans Both Mesmerized and Confused

0

College football's conference championship games invariably double as summits (and advertisements) for FBS's 10 conferences. As much as vehicles for crowning a champion, the games serve as informal trade shows for the league's football personnel and beyond.

"Football personnel and beyond," however, is hardly limited to humans. Mascots are often seen goofing off in these settings; Friday's meeting of Pac-12 mascots became an object of pathos as that league nears its demise.

On Saturday, CBS attempted to engineer a similar mascot meeting, using CGI to animate seven of the SEC's 14 mascots dancing. However, computer-generated Uga, Big Al and friends were met with a decidedly mixed reception.

Some were repulsed, and wondered why CBS saw fit to cook up the strange concoction in its final SEC game.

On the other hand, some found the bizarre video a fitting tribute.

Others viewed their presence as an opportunity.

Fans noted that the bombastic visuals were true to the spirit of the SEC.

Either way, it was a godsend for that most beloved of college football social media accounts, No Context College Football.
