SPECIAL ADVISER PRESENTS 30 PORTRAITS OF MR. GOVERNOR TO FEDERAL LEGISLATORS

As part of the mandate of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement (OPLCE) in fostering community participation and government involvement in the affairs of the citizenry while ensuring harmonious relationships amongst the Executive, Legislative and the populace, 30 Official Portraits of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu were presented to members of the National Assembly representing Lagos State.

The portraits were presented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, in the company of the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe and Directors and Staff during the working visit of the Officials to the National Assembly recently.

Senator Oluranti Adebule, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and presently representing Lagos West Senatorial District, while receiving the portraits on behalf of the other members of the Red Chamber, commended the initiative and thanked Mr. Governor for approving the presentation of the portraits to Parliamentarians representing Lagos State.

She recalled when the Office was birthed in 2015, saying as the then Deputy Governor, the OPLCE was under her watch and they strived to bridge the gap between the Executive and the Legislators, adding that some of the initiatives recommended then are still being implemented many years after.

Similarly at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly,. Hon. Olawale Raji, Member, House of Representatives, Epe Constituency, received the visiting team who were on the ground to observe plenary sessions, alongside the portraits’ presentation.

Hon. Raji, in his remarks, noted that the Office should be well structured, empowered and integrated into the programme of the National Assembly as an interface between the chambers and the State.

He averred that the relationship between the State and the Legislatives was very smooth with the former Governor Ambode as he laid the foundation for the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature, noting that the former Governor promised to establish a liaison office which necessitated the creation of the Office of Civic Engagement.

He further said the relationship paid off during the 8th Assembly when he was in the Committee on Loans and Debt Management, the Governor needed to raise a loan for projects and the representatives came down to help facilitate the loan.

According to him there are other activities performed by the Honourable Members apart from legislations that will have a positive impact on Lagos State, adding that in the last Assembly, multi-billion naira projects were executed across the constituencies, “Mr. Governor has been informed that these are interventions that could be integrated into the State Development Plans”, he said.

The Special Adviser Office of Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, in his response, appreciated the Honourable Members of the House of Representatives for the courtesy extended to his team while commending the liaison office for making the visit hitch-free, adding that he was determined to ensure the visit was successful.

He emphasised that the visit would be of great value to the Office and the State, promising to forward the report of the visit to Mr. Governor.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe said that the visit to the National Assembly is expected to come up quarterly as the Office intends to observe plenary sessions and get more information about the social intervention programmes initiated and implemented by members to showcase them to the populace.

Dignitaries at the portraits presentation at the Green Chamber include Hon Olawale Raji, representing Epe Federal Constituency; Hon. Kalejaiye Adebayo Paul, representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency; Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba representing Alimosho Federal Constituency; Hon. George Folami Adegeye, representing Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency; Hon. Seyi Sowunmi, representing Ojo Federal Constituency and Hon. Sesi Whingah, representing Badagry Federal Constituency.
