EU to aid in building and repairing 400 schools in Afghanistan
The European Union, in its ongoing efforts to aid Afghanistan, will be supporting the reconstruction of 400 schools, as confirmed by EU Charge d’Affaires Rafaela Judicé.
On Monday, Rafaela Judicé, the Charge d’Affaires of the European Union, announced during a meeting with Habibullah Agha, the Taliban acting Minister of Education, that the European Union will fund the reconstruction of 400 schools in Afghanistan.
According to the European Union Charge d’Affaires, this union will fund the reconstruction of 400 schools across Afghanistan, including central and provincial areas.
During this meeting, Ms. Rafaela added that the European Union has contributed approximately 143 million euros to Afghanistan, including support for the Ministry of Education.
Two days ago, the European Union announced an additional 142 million euros in aid to the Afghan people.
It’s noteworthy that the European Union’s announcement of reconstructing 400 schools comes at a time when the doors of schools for girls above the sixth grade have been closed since the Taliban control in August 2021. So far, no decision has been made by the group regarding this matter.
Furthermore, it has been over a year since women have been denied access to higher education. Despite calls from the global and international community to reopen schools and universities, the group has not responded positively.
