CT elementary school teacher killed in wrong-way crash in Massachusetts
An elementary school teacher in Connecticut was killed in a wrong-way crash in Massachusetts over the weekend.
Kayla Morey, 35, of Dayville died following a crash reported Saturday on Route 395 South at 10:17 p.m. in Webster, according to Massachusetts State Police.
State police said a preliminary investigation showed that 31-year-old Jordan Pimentel of Auburn, Massachusetts, was driving a GMC Sierra pickup north in the left lane of the southbound side of Route 395 when he struck head-on a 2012 Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle that was being driven south by Morey. The occurred in the area of Exit 3, according to state police.
Morey and Pimentel were pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
Putnam school officials on Sunday notified the school community that Morey had been killed in a car accident.
“With a heavy heart, I share the passing of one of our teachers at Putnam Elementary School. We learned yesterday that Kayla Morey, a fourth grade teacher, was involved in a car accident this weekend,” Steve Rioux, superintendent of the Putnam School District, said in a message to parents and guardians. “We send our most heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and students as they deal with this most tragic event.
Counselors will be available this week for students and staff, Rioux said.
Massachusetts authorities said the crash is being investigated by the State Police-Sturbridge Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section and State Police Detective Unit for Worcester County.
