James Maddison reveals the ‘feeling’ he got after speaking to Harry Kane about his future
James Maddison has admitted that he was hoping Harry Kane would remain in North London beyond the summer window and revealed that the feeling he got from the striker was that he would have been happy to stay if Spurs and Bayern Munich had not been able to agree a deal.
Kane was heavily linked with a switch to Bayern right from the start of the summer transfer window, and there was a feeling of inevitability about the move, given that the striker had just one year left on his contract at Tottenham.
The deal between the parties was eventually agreed just before the start of the new Premier League season and unsurprisingly, the 30-year-old has taken German football by storm since his move.
Maddison spoke to Kane about his Spurs future
Kane has already managed 22 goals and seven assists in 18 matches across all competitions (Transfermarkt) and is hoping to fire Bayern to the Bundesliga and Champions League titles this season.
Maddison has remarked that while he was aware when he signed for Spurs that the centre-forward could leave, the England captain was open to the possibility of staying.
The attacking midfielder told Amazon Prime Video: “One of the positives [with me coming to Spurs] was Harry Kane being our no.9. In my opinion he’s the best nine in the world. He is showing that now – his numbers are ridiculous.
“But I knew there was a chance he might leave. There was a lot of talk. Me and Harry had chats in England camps. I think Harry would have been happy to stay as well. The feeling I got was that he was actually happy either way.”

Kane is an ultimate professional and there is no doubt that he would have got his head down and delivered for Tottenham had he stayed at the club. However, he was never going to sign a new contract, which is why I believe the club made the right decision to cash in on him and start afresh under Postecoglou.
