Man, 70, dies and 5 others injured in 4-car pile-up on A66 slip lane
A MAN has died after a medical episode which led to a four-car pile-up and left five people injured.
The collision took place on the A66 Hartington slip lane in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, at 8.40am on Wednesday.
The road was closed for several hours while medical teams worked to try and save the 70-year-old’s life.
Cops said the man was travelling in a white Mercedes Sprinter van with a 44-year-old male who suffered a sprained ankle.
Both men were from outside of the Teesside area.
A blue Toyota Corolla taxi, white Peugeot 208 and black Audi A1 were also all involved in the crash.
An air ambulance landed at the nearby industrial estate.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police added: “The driver of a blue Toyota Corolla taxi, a 22-year-old man, and his passenger, a 55-year-old woman, both sustained minor injuries.
“The driver of a white Peugeot 208, an 18-year-old woman, and a 25-year-old woman driving a black Audi A1 also suffered minor injuries.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.38am this morning (Wednesday 6 December) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A66 in Middlesbrough.
“We dispatched three ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical leader, and requested the support of our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended via air.
“Three patients were transported by road to The James Cook University Hospital for further treatment.”
