Adele reveals the real reason why she won’t move back to the UK
SHE has spent the past decade living in sunny Los Angeles and now Adele has revealed why she is so eager to stay put.
The superstar has revealed she suffers from “really bad seasonal depression”, known as SAD — which means the cold, dark weather at home in Britain during the winter is an absolute no-go.
In a rare interview with The Hollywood Reporter mag, Adele explained: “I get really bad seasonal depression, so the weather is good for me here.
“It is strange sometimes, because I’m very British. Because it’s a bit harder for me to go out nowadays, what I love the most about L.A. is everyone goes to each other’s houses. I like that.
“And I actually have made a lot of really great core friends. I didn’t think I’d ever have a real friend group here.”
And despite making Hollywood her home, she has no plans to become a screen star — at least not yet.
Asked if she has considered acting, she said: “No. There is one movie I want to do, but the guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it.”
On whether it is someone people know, she replied: “Yeah. I’m not giving you no clues, though. But I bug him every now and then about it, but he’s just not there yet. But that’s the only role I ever want, because I think I’d nail it. I think I’d do really, really, really good at it.”
Instead, she has dreams of working behind the scenes.
Adele continued: “My dream job is to be a script reader, that’s what I’d love. People think it’s hilarious and they don’t take me seriously.
“And I often say to my manager, ‘I think I could make some really great stuff, I want to be really successful at something’. And he’s like, ‘What?’
“I was like, ‘I know, but (music) is my hobby. I just fell into it and then it just happened. I want to be in TV and behind the scenes’.”
The Easy On Me singer has spent the past year performing in her Las Vegas residency, which means there is no new music on the way.
On whether she has had time to record, Adele said: “I get nervous about wearing my voice out. (The show is) a lot of singing. It’s two hours. It’s all live. It’s a lot. And I f**king motormouth and chat me ass off as well. But yeah, I have nothing to say yet. I haven’t even thought about it.”
The show has been sold out and a massive earner but Adele admitted it has still been nerve wracking, especially when Lady Gaga turned up to see her.
She explained: “I’ve had lots of amazing people there. There’s been one there that I st myself the whole show.
“Gaga. And I’ve spent a bit of time with her, but I rate her so hard . . . She made me really, really nervous.”
And while Adele isn’t thinking about releasing new music any time soon, her husband, sports agent Rich Paul, probably hopes she does.
Asked if she listens to her own music, she said no but added: “Rich does, it drives me, insane.”
Kylie’s Red-dy to woo fans
KYLIE Minogue is done Spinning Around — she’s having a lie down instead.
The star looked festive and flirty in a cutaway red dress as she lay atop a piano during a performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
ITV special An Audience With Kylie sees the Aussie pop princess discuss her record-breaking career and perform some of her biggest hits.
In even more good news for fans, today she has released a special extended edition of her No1 album Tension, featuring longer versions of all 11 tracks – including Padam Padam, which recently helped Kylie bag her first Grammy nomination in 14 years in the Best Pop Dance Recording category.
She has been splitting her time between the UK, her native Oz and Las Vegas, where she kicked off her first residency last month.
With all that jet lag, I’m not surprised she needed a rest.
An Audience With Kylie airs on ITV1 at 7.45pm on Sunday.
Last Dinner Party feast of the Brits
INDIE girlband The Last Dinner Party have won the coveted Brits Rising Star Award, tipping them for big things in 2024.
Collecting their gong after being announced as the winners on Radio 1 last night, they said: “It’s an honour to achieve something so iconic so early on in our career and we can only hope to keep making music that connects with all the incredible people who have listened to and supported us.”
Singers Adele, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith, Rag’N/Bone Man and Sam Fender are among previous recipients of the award.
Madge: Wow I’ve made it
MADONNA hopped on the tube to London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday evening for the final night of her sold out, 27-date European leg of her Celebration Tour.
She has completed the run without injury or any cancellations – and no one is more shocked about that than her.
She said during the show: “I’m kind of surprised that we got here.
Time went by like that.
“I couldn’t think of a better place to end the European leg of my tour and I’m so grateful that I even have a leg of a tour. I’m so grateful I have a leg, you have no idea what I’ve been through.”
According to bookie Ladbrokes, she has odds of 8-11 to headline Glastonbury next June.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed she is back here then.
Gaga a Joker?
LADY Gaga could be eyeing up a fourth Oscar nod for Best Original Song.
The singer will appear in DC blockbuster Joker: Folie À Deux next year and the film’s music producer has hinted she could feature on the soundtrack.
Asked if she has lent her skills to it, Sam Slater confirmed the score has been finished and said of Gaga: “You will just have to wait and see. But they’ve done a great job, that’s all I can say.”
She bagged her first nomination in 2016 for Till It Happens To You from The Hunting Ground score, and won in 2019 with Shallow from A Star Is Born.
Her third nod came this year thanks to her Top Gun: Maverick song Hold My Hand.
And with rumours she is working on her seventh album, it’s shaping up to be another big year for Gaga.
Palomas a big wig
PALOMA Faith must have more wigs than I’ve had hot dinners.
She wore this red dress and dark, curly hairdo at a show on Wednesday, which must have left fans doing a double take when she actually started singing.
Paloma performed at the The National Lottery’s Big Bash at Wembley Arena on a line-up which also included Busted, Take That and Becky Hill.
In the past month alone, Paloma has had red, auburn and blonde hair.
The last thing she needs under the Christmas tree is any more hairpieces.
