Reports: Duke Set To Hire Manny Diaz As Football Coach
Welcome to Duke, coach Diaz!
Various reports have emerged suggesting that Duke will hire Manny Diaz later today as its new football coach.
Diaz was of course the head coach at Miami for three seasons, finishing with a 21-15 record and 16-9 in the ACC.
He’s an outstanding defensive mind, having put together solid defenses at NC State, Miami and Penn State, among others.
Diaz was of course fired at Miami after his third season after starting 2-4. He did finish 7-5 but was fired almost exactly two years ago (December 6, 2021).
Is this solid choice?
Time will tell of course, but AD Nina King has made solid hires so far so you have to trust her judgment.
What we can’t know right now, although people more familiar with Miami could tell us, is how well he put together his staff, how well he delegates and how well he recruits. All of those are obviously very key to anyone’s success.
