Bailey family’s Christmas ruined in Coronation Street as Ed hides tragic secret
OVERWHELMED by his gambling addiction, Ed Bailey is desperately trying to save face as he prepares to celebrate Christmas.
Unfortunately, the Coronation Street character gets in trouble with a dangerous loan shark, which could hint trouble for his family.
The builder played by Trevor Michael Georges has been trying to tackle his money issues but is unable to get rid of his penchant for gambling.
And things are only set to get worse for him in the ITV soap, despite the surprise arrival of his father Sarge Bailey, portrayed by TV legend Ram John Holder.
Coming up, Ed bets the Christmas dinner money Serge gives him on a horse to try and pay off his payday loan.
In recent scenes of the Manchester-based program, Ed turned to a loan shark named Tony (Sean Cernow) but he has struggled to pay him off.
Tension builds up between him and Tony as the loan shark is adamant on getting his dues.
With Aggie unable to get home for Chrismas the family vow to make it special for two-year-old Glory.
Ed promises Sarge he will have the £1K he promised to lend him but it may be difficult for him to stay true to his word.
Later on, Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) arrives with the cash they owe Ed who is relieved he can finally pay Tony.
But when Sarge finds him with the cash, he assumes it is for him.
Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) then takes everyone to the Bistro and hands Ed some cash to buy drinks.
Unbeknownst to Ed, a furious Tony has spotted him apparently slashing the cash instead of paying him.
Tony corners Ed and makes it clear he wants the money he’s owed by tomorrow.
Desperate to get away from his problems and Tony’s threats, Ed secretly packs a bag and tells Aggie he is coming to spend Christmas with her in Birmingham.
Unfortunately for Ed, as he opens the front door, he comes face to face with Tony, who menacingly barges his way into the house.
When Ed’s phone rings with a call from Aggie, Tony threatens to tell her everything.
Ed makes a grab for the phone, but Tony punches him, knocking him to the floor.
In the bistro, Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) shows Ronnie and Sarge the watch he’s bought Ed for Christmas, engraved with the words “For the World’s Best Dad. Our Hero.”
Ronnie immediately reckons it’s the perfect gift for his brother and encourages Michael to hand it over to Ed.
Sadly, the Baileys return home to a nasty surprise after their celebratory meal at The Bistro and find Ed nursing a cut lip.
