Zach Wilson put over bettors on his back in monster 2nd half of Jets' stunning upset over Texans

After all the talk this week of Zach Wilson maybe not wanting to return to his role as starting quarterback of the New York Jets, the former first-round pick turned out to be the best man for the job after all.

Wilson put together maybe the best game of his career Sunday against the Houston Texans, throwing for 301 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Jets to an upset win as 3.5-point underdogs. And it incredibly came after one of the ugliest starts to a game imaginable, as the Jets and Texans exchanged punts to combine for the first scoreless first half since 2019.

From there, Wilson took over, completing 18-of-21 passes for 209 yards. In the process, he put anyone who bet over on the total on his back, helping to push the score past the 33.5-point line in a 30-6 win. It’s the first game to go over the total after a scoreless first half in the Wild Card era, according to Action Network’s Evan Abrams.

It didn’t come without a little second-half scare for bettors. The over-clinching field goal came with 1:06 left in the game.

Wilson finished the game with a career-best 117.9 quarterback rating, completing a career-best 75 percent of his passes, throwing for the third-most passing yards of his career, and throwing multiple touchdowns without an interception for the second time.
