Nine years ago, shortly after his election as baseball commissioner, Rob Manfred embarked on one of his initial journeys. His destination: Oakland, where he sought consultation with Athletics owner John Fisher regarding strategies to retain the team within the Bay Area.
Despite their collective efforts, the endeavor proved unsuccessful. As a result, the Athletics will be relocating to Las Vegas, marking a significant shift. This move makes them only the second Major League Baseball team to change cities in over half a century.
On Thursday, all 30 MLB team owners unanimously approved Fisher's relocation proposal, which had received the endorsement of Commissioner Manfred.
