Police arrest suspect in Berkeley double stabbing

BERKELEY — A man suspected in the stabbing of two people last week was arrested early Tuesday, police said.

Police said they arrested the 23-year-old suspect on suspicion of attempted murder, battery with serious bodily injury and causing injury to an elder dependent adult.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court on Thursday, authorities said.

An older man and woman continue to recover from their wounds following the Friday stabbing near El Camino Real and the Oakridge Path. According to Berkeley police, the attack happened about 6:30 p.m.

He initially was taken to the Berkeley City Jail but was expected eventually to be taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, authorities said. The man was being held without bail, authorities said.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place and to lock their doors and windows Friday following the stabbing. Authorities lifted the advisory about 9:40 p.m. Friday.
