King Dasharath of Ayodhya visited Kanchipuram to seek blessings from Amba Kamakshi. The connection between Kanchi and Ayodhya is mentioned in the Brahmanda Purana. Kanchi and Ayodhya are referred to as 'Prithvi Kshetram' among the 'Pancha Bhuta Sthalam' of Lord Shiva. The Kanchi Peeth Shankaracharya sent ceremonial items to Ayodhya during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
