Nearly 2,000 people lost power following reports of ‘explosion’ in Hartford
Nearly 2,000 people lost power briefly Tuesday night following reports of an explosion in Hartford.
Fire crews responded to the area of Albany Avenue and Sigourney Street shortly after 9 p.m. and found a maintenance cover had been displaced and that there was “slight smoke” around, according to the Hartford Fire Department.
Residents in and around the 800 block of Albany Avenue reported having no power following the sound of an explosion, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for Eversource said 1,908 people were initially without power following “an equipment failure.” All of those customers, except for four people, had electricity back within an hour after crews rerouted the power.
The remaining outages have since been restored, according to Eversource. A spokesperson for the power company said Wednesday morning crews were still finishing up their repairs.
