Mum invents incredible way to serve Christmas dinner but food fans say ‘just stick it on the bloody plate’
A MUM reckons the traditional Christmas dinner is a doner — and is serving her family the festive meal on kebab skewers instead.
Katie Fox, 35, risked a social media grilling by testing her controversial idea last week with everything but the turkey.
She speared pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts, stuffing balls and Yorkshire puddings.
The 10in kebabs were then drizzled in gravy for partner Tony Rewcastle, 37, her 14-year-old niece and a pal.
Inventive Kate said: “I wanted to have a Christmassy night after it snowed.
“I don’t really know where the idea came from — it just happened.
“And I was surprised at how cheap it was.
“The meal costs less than £7 for four people. We all had two skewers each and we were full.”
Businesswoman Katie, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, added: “It’s weird but it really went well and I’m planning to do it again over Christmas.”
But not everyone was a fan of her offbeat festive creation.
Some were full of pitta for her family while others hauled her over the coals after she posted snaps of the kebabs online.
One branded her innovation a “pointless exercise”.
Another skewered the idea, saying: “Just stick it on the bloody plate.”
And one roasted the meal with: “Trying to make Xmas dinner like street food . . . STOP IT.”
But Kate thinks there are takeaways from her idea for other families.
She said: “If people want to put a Christmas dinner on skewers, let them put a Christmas dinner on skewers.”
