Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alexis Mac Allister will miss the heavyweight clash with Manchester United.
United will travel to Anfield on Sunday to face high-flying Liverpool in the Premier League.
Speaking at his press conference, Klopp said (via Liverpoolfc.com): “I am obviously not a doctor but they explain it to me pretty much every day why he is not ready yet and it is obviously a bit more tricky than we thought in the first moment.”
“Macca is actually a super-tough guy so we have probably to make sure just from an infection point of view nothing happens. That’s really important.
“I never had this injury for one of my players before but now we have it. I hope it will not take that long, I would like to say it’s day by day – but that would look like he could maybe play the next game but he will not be ready for that as well.
“So, I hope the next three or four days he makes big steps and then we will see.”
Injury-hit Man United face a tough Liverpool test
Mac Allister’s injury won’t affect Man United as they are also battling with several casualties.
Klopp may put his trust in Wataru Endo but could also opt to start Trent Alexander-Arnold at the base of the midfield.
Erik ten Hag would be worried about the mounting injury problems at Man United.
Marcus Rashord and Anthony Martial were left out of United’s squad, which lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
Harry Maguire was hooked off before half-time due to a groin injury.
Luke Shaw was taken off at the break as he was spotted holding his hamstring.
Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia are already on the treatment table.
Casemiro and Amad Diallo are still finding their way back from their respective injuries.
The Red Devils haven’t won at Anfield since 2016. Breaking this jinx will be difficult, considering the two teams are on entirely different trajectories.
Klopp’s men have been in lethal form this season, sitting at the apex of the Premier League table.
After a disastrous 2022/23 campaign, Liverpool have returned strongly and are challenging for the league title.
On Sunday, they will seek to claim grabbing rights against their bitter rivals to solidify their position at the top.
