CT man extradited from Virginia to face charges in 2022 Hartford murder

A man was extradited to Connecticut on Thursday to face murder and other charges in a fatal shooting in Hartford last year.

Daniel White, 32, of Hartford was charged with murder, criminal liability and first-degree assault in the May 2022 killing of 25-year-old Daryl Walker of Bloomfield, according to the Hartford Police Department.

Police said they obtained a warrant for White’s arrest and learned that he was in custody on unrelated charges in Virginia.

According to police, on May 19, 2022, officers responded to the area of 115 Zion St. just before 10 p.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter notification. An officer who was en route, heading west on Ward Street, saw a vehicle traveling very fast in the opposite direction before it crashed into a parked vehicle, made contact with the police cruiser and crashed into the Hartford Police Substation at 134 Affleck St., police said.

Police found that the driver, later identified as Walker, and a passenger in the vehicle were suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers provided medical aid to the victims until medics arrived and both occupants were taken to an area hospital, where Walker was pronounced dead. The other victim, a man in his 20s, was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police said they discovered that both men were shot on Zion Street where the ShotSpotter had detected gunfire.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded to investigate and ultimately secured a warrant for White’s arrest.

White was being held on a $1.5 million bond following his extradition back to Connecticut.
