Daytime Emmy predictions: Our official odds say ‘General Hospital’ and Kelly Clarkson will be big winners

Expect another big year for the amply awarded “General Hospital” at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards taking place tonight, December 15, at 9:00-11:00pm Eastern (delayed on the west coast). Based on our official racetrack odds, the 60-year-old soap will win Best Drama Series for the 16th time, extending its record for the most wins ever in the category. Those odds are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. “GH” is tipped to win four out of the six acting categories in addition to the top prize for Best Drama. Kelly Thiebaud and Nicholas Chavez are the odds-on favorites for the supporting awards, which would make this the second consecutive Emmy win for both actors. Eden McCoy will prevail as Best Young Performer, which would be her very first Emmy trophy on her third try; she was previously nominated in 2019 and 2020. And veteran actress Alley Mills is expected to take Best Guest Performer for assuming the role of Heather Webber, who has been on the “GH” canvas on-and-off since 1976. The character was famously played by Robin Mattson between 1980 and 2016.

But “GH” isn’t favored in either of the lead races. According to our users, those will go to Billy Flynn (“Days of Our Lives”) in what would be his first win on his third nomination, and Michelle Stafford (“The Young and the Restless”), who would then be a three-time winner.

Elsewhere, count on Kelly Clarkson to continue her winning run on her self-titled talk show. She’s the front-runner for Best Daytime Talk Series after two previous wins in the former Best Entertainment Talk Show category. And we think she’ll also repeat as Best Daytime Talk Host, following hosting victories for the last three years in a row. Other likely champs in our odds include the venerable Ina Garten (Best Culinary Host for “Be My Guest”) and past Emmy champ Zac Efron (Best Daytime Program Host for “Down to Earth”).
