Police investigating shooting in New Haven

A man was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound following a shooting in New Haven on Thursday night, police said.

The New Haven Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Poplar Street between Grand Avenue and Woolsey Street around 7:35 p.m. on Thursday. As officers arrived they located a 43-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of Grand Avenue between Popular Street and Blatchley Avenue, according to police.

New Haven Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel arrived on the scene to render aid before the victim was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, police said.

Medical personnel confirmed that the victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm, according to police.

The crime scene was secured as detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses and searched for surveillance footage, police said.

According to police, ballistic evidence was found at the scene.
