In the pink: ‘Barbie’ enters the streaming universe beginning today on Max
Introducing Streaming Barbie and Ken.
The Warner Bros. cinematic sensation “Barbie,” which has taken in more than $1.4 billion worldwide in box office receipts this year, will now attempt to conquer the streaming world with availability beginning today exclusively on Max – continuing the phenomenon that began with its debut in theaters on July 21 and broke records as the highest-grossing global release in the studio’s history.
As you might expect, the release is being accompanied by an all-out blitz designed to immediately put the film on the streaming map. For instance, starting today and through Monday the 18th. the Max website has been transformed into Barbie Land, complete with a custom pink-and-white logo and pink homepage along with additional pink elements to celebrate the debut. The blockbuster hit’s rollout also features a concurrent full interpretation in American Sign Language (ASL) for the deaf community.
Other bonus elements marking the “Barbie” launch over Max include:
- Becoming Barbie: A featurette showcasing how star Margot Robbie and the film’s crew crafted an iconic look for the leading role.
- “Barbie” Transportation Sequences: A behind-the-scenes look at how the crew pulled off Barbie and Ken’s (Ryan Gosling) journey int the real world.
- Greta’s Vision: The cast and crew discuss co-writer-director Greta Gerwig’s approach to bringing the world of Barbie to life.
- “I’m Just Ken” Music Video: A behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of the music video.
- Musical Make-Believe: Disco Dance: A look at the choreography and filming of the disco dance scene in Barbieland.
- Musical Make-Believe: Doing War: A look at the making of the epic Ken battle scene.
- Musical Make-Believe: Ken’s Ballet: How the Ken ballet number came together, including a behind-the-scenes look at the cats recording with music producer Mark Ronson.
- We Are Barbie: The stars discuss what makes each of their “Barbie” characters unique.
Max users can also engage in a “Let’s Play Dress-Up” interactive component that enables users to hover over icons including lipstick and high-heels.
“Barbie” has received a record-breaking 18 Critics Choice Awards nominations and nine Golden Globe bids.
